Empower Your Engineers

An Operator Training Simulator (OTS) is designed and built to respond in the same way as the real plant given changing plant conditions and operator input. They help control room operators gain the skills they need to operate the plant safely, efficiently, and with reduced environmental impact.

TSC have a long-standing reputation for generating dynamically accurate Operator Training Simulation packages that represent your actual plant systems integrated with an emulation of the control system and user interface that a control room operator would use on the real plant. Our OTS can include emulation of the redundant safety systems, fire&gas systems, local control panels, field valves and local instruments.

An OTS can be used for training new or experienced operators, designing, and testing operating procedures, validating control system logic and as an engineering tool for developing and testing new control strategies and “what if?” analysis.

Why is a TSC Operator Training Simulator the best option?

Versatility: Our OTSs are high fidelity, yet highly optimised and can run on a standard PC; no complex server racks, no fixed stations for field engineers and instructors. Every station can be used by any role using the same software just based on login. Trainees can learn on individually separate sessions or connected together in any combination at any time.

Training focus: Training functionality is built into the front end; instructors can intuitively create faults and scenarios, and easily monitor trainees’ performance.

Efficient use of training time: Our OTSs can be started up very quickly, and an instructor can switch between saved states or training scenarios in seconds, you don’t need to spend valuable training time synchronising the model state across multiple processes and servers. The OTS can be paused, sped-up, saved and restarted very easily.

Simple licencing, deployment, scaling and maintenance: TSC’s software is entirely developed and owned in-house, only a single run-time licence is required. An OTS can be deployed on local machines or via our cloud platform, which is securely accessible on any browser globally. Additional users and capacity can be added very easily. As our OTS hardware is generic, maintenance and upgrade of hardware is simple and cost effective.

Immersive 3D field operator option: TSC can fully link our control room OTS with a fully linked 3D digital twin of your plant, enabling truly integrated training of control room operators and field operators.

Training and Testing at Every Stage

A TSC Operator Training Simulator can cover the full life cycle of your asset: OTS build can be started as soon as the basic plant design is created, even before an automation contractor is assigned.

TSC can create mock control room screens and switch to emulate the real screens once they are available. Dynamic response and controllability can be tested early in the plant design. As the plant design progresses, the OTS can be used to design and test operating procedures.

Commissioning procedures can be tested, and operators trained pre-commissioning. As the plant evolves over its life, changes to plant, control systems and procedures can be tested and operators trained before the changes are made on-site.

The OTS can be used to test turnaround, shutdown and decommissioning procedures.

Emulation or Stimulation?

An OTS can be built with either an emulated or stimulated control system. TSC can help you decide which is  best for your project when discussing your project requirements.

Control System Emulation

We specialise in the emulation of the control screen graphics.

This involves creating accurate simulations that replicate the appearance and functionality of the real control room. By accurately mimicking the behaviour of your control screens, this approach enables operators to gain practical experience, improve their skills, and enhance their decision-making abilities, all while minimising the potential for errors and operational disruptions.

Emulated training scenarios can be easily customised, adapted, and accessed remotely, offering a valuable tool for preparing operators for real-world tasks and challenges.

Linked Simulation

We recreate all the most essential elements of the control system which we then link into dynamic simulation mathematics.

The result is a trained operator who is not just familiar with the engineering process of the plant, but one who is familiar with the operation of that specific plant DCS. This is a vital element during abnormal conditions to mitigate human factor risks.

FAQ's

How we can help with your OTS requirements

Significantly cheaper whole-life cost than most alternative options. Eliminates the need for physical hardware replicas of control screens, reducing the costs associated with creating and maintaining training set-ups. Single vendor with lower overall licencing costs. Let us provide you with a quote
Operators can be exposed to malfunctions, process disturbances and infrequent operations (start-ups, shutdowns, turndowns). This prepares them in a safe environment before they occur on the live plant.
Since real systems are not taken offline for training, operations continue uninterrupted while operators enhance their skills using emulated control screens, therefore downtime is reduced, and production is increased as a result
Emulated systems can simulate a wide range of scenarios and operational conditions, allowing operators to practice responding to different situations without disrupting real operations.
