The Pumped Tanks model was designed to enhance the problem solving skills of operators and introduce them to control room operations.
This model shows two holding tanks of different products with make-up lines.
There is a high value oil tank which is slower to transfer from and the vessel is slower to refill. There is also a lower value kerosene tank which is quicker to transfer from and quicker to fill.
The products are transferred from the holding tanks via gravity to a ship loading tank. The flow rates into the ship loading tank are measured and totalised. The chosen product is then pumped onto a ship.
Ships arrive at regular intervals meaning the operator will need to make decisions as to which product to load based on product value and availability.
