Engineering Services from TSC- Recent Compressor Studies Across the UK
At TSC Simulation, we have recently completed a series of Compressor Station Safety and Operability Studies across the UK, supporting major engineering partners on a range of projects. Our recent work includes studies for:
- Yokogawa – Lockerley, Avonbridge, Bishop Auckland
- Wood – St Fergus, Kirriemuir, Diss
- Tecnica – Aberdeen
- National Gas – Felindre
These projects reflect our continued role in supporting the UK Gas National Transmission System (NTS) and wider gas infrastructure with high-quality dynamic simulation and performance analysis.
Why carry out compressor studies?
Compressor Station Studies are essential for companies planning to build, operate, or upgrade compressor stations. They ensure that facilities can operate safely, efficiently, and reliably under a wide range of conditions.
Organisations involved in natural gas transmission, oil and gas production, and energy infrastructure development often commission these studies. They may also be required by regulatory authorities as part of the design and permitting process.
A Compressor Operability Study assesses how a station performs under different scenarios, from changes in gas flow, temperature, and pressure to potential emergency or shut down situations. Using dynamic simulation and modelling, we can evaluate compressor performance, control logic, and station resilience to identify any potential issues and optimise system performance.
The results help clients validate the design and ensure each compressor station can meet operational demands safely and efficiently throughout its lifecycle.
How TSC Simulation supports compressor studies
TSC Simulation provides a complete model build and analysis service, supporting clients through every phase of compressor station design and validation.
Our experience in this field goes back to 1999, when we delivered our first dynamic simulation and operability validation studies for three UK National Gas Transmission Stations on behalf of AMEC. Since then, we’ve provided simulation models and performance studies for more than 18 compressor station upgrades and gas storage projects across the UK NTS.
Our latest studies for Yokogawa, Wood, Tecnica, and National Gas continue this legacy, delivering accurate, reliable, and data-driven insights to support the UK’s evolving gas transmission infrastructure.
The continuing need for compressor station studies
As the UK’s energy landscape evolves, with reduced reliance on North Sea gas and increased LNG imports from terminals such as Isle of Grain and Milford Haven, the way gas moves around the NTS is changing significantly.
There is also an ongoing drive to reduce carbon emissions, with some compressor drivers being upgraded or switched from gas-powered turbines to electrically driven motors or cleaner turbines.
This transition increases the need for compressor station upgrades, reconfigurations, and performance studies to maintain system flexibility, efficiency, and safety.
The demand for such studies will continue to be shaped by factors like future gas demand, project location, and regulatory frameworks, but their importance in ensuring safe and reliable gas transmission remains as strong as ever.
If you’re planning a new compressor station project or require validation for existing infrastructure, our team would be delighted to help. Contact TSC Simulation to discuss how our modelling and analysis expertise can support your next project.
